Why a good poster needs more than a nice picture
A poster has only a few seconds to communicate. Good design makes the message obvious before the viewer even starts reading.
1. Start with one message
Decide the single action or idea the poster must communicate. Too many competing messages make the design feel busy.
2. Create visual hierarchy
The most important information should be the biggest or strongest element, followed by supporting details such as date, location and contact information.
3. Use contrast and spacing
Readable type, strong contrast and generous spacing make promotional artwork easier to scan on a phone, printed page or notice board.
4. Make the call-to-action clear
Tell people what to do next — WhatsApp, call, visit a website, book, register or enquire.
